Nutrition, health, agriculture on agenda for Governing Council meet

Image Nutrition and health are going to be high on the agenda of the Centre's fourth Governing Council meet to be held on Sunday, which will be chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The meeting, held after more than a year, will be attended by chief ministers of several states, union ministers, lieutenant governors of union territories and senior officials of the Centre.
Apart from an action report of the decisions taken in the third meeting of the Council held in April last year, the Council will also discuss policies in the agricultural sector on how to double farmers' income. Soil health cards, agricultural e-markets, MGNREGS and its contribution towards water conservation will be some of the key points of discussion.
Health policies to be discussed include the Ayushman Bharat, the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Swasthya Suraksha Mission (PMRSSM), Poshan Mission, and Mission Indradhanush.
In the ATR, the Council will study the performance of the states on the decisions taken. These include cooperative federalism in policy formulation, developing goals for 2022, which is the 75th year of Indian independence, supporting students from Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) studying in other states, and the utilisation of technologies and digital payment platforms.
"The agenda of this meeting is very brief, unlike the past meetings. Topics such as Swachh Bharat, Skill India, and Digital India, which were discussed in the last meeting, have not been included this time," Naidu said. "I will highlight the issues faced by farmers, traders, and daily labourers, insecurity among SC/STs and other minorities, employment of youth, problems in crop insurance schemes, Minimum Support Prices (MSP) to farmers and doubling of farmers' income, and nutrition, among others."
